Overnight Sensation MTM Don't Sound Right

I bought the various parts and drivers and built a single Overnight Sensation MTM. When the box was done and the drivers installed I simply hooked them up without the crossover but simply the inductor connected in series to the drivers and one capacitor and the 10 ohm resistor connected in series to the tweeter. I did this because I was anxious to hear the B4N's. I was impressed. The bass was nice but everything else was kind of loud but overall it sounded OK. Next I built the crossover as specified and now it just don't sound right. It sounds muddy and boomy. The bass is deep, the highs are nice but the mid and vocals seem distant and soft.. I used all brand new parts in the crossover - Dayton caps and resistors and Jantzen Inductors. For the 4.7 uF caps for the high pass though I had some 250 volt metalized polyester ones laying around so I used them. Any suggestions. I'm new to all this.
