Building process - The loudspeaker 1

Greetings to all of you.
After lurking in the shadows of the DIY community I decided to get socially involved in my next project, and present you the building process of THE LOUDSPEAKER 1 of Troels Gravesen.

Objectives:
-Taking the time in design. I truly believe in aesthetics. A nice presented dish is part of the meal, so is with speakers... I enjoy the process of trying and finding a pleasing form etc. Would be great if you could help me with this part of the process. I well...

Sheet Metal Fabrication

Hello everyone. I'm looking for any suggestions or advice on getting sheet metal parts fabricated. Seems to me that a decent number of you all are building with custom sheet metal parts. I have no problem doing the CAD and generating STEP files, but I don't have the equipment to do the fabrication. I'm aware of a few options:
1. China, e.g., pcbway. I've used them before, but shipping and taxes are insane.
2. Online fabricators, e.g., Xometry, Protolabs. The quotes I'm seeing seem insanely...

3-way to active - Hypex FA253 - learning project

Hello, All!
Just joined today as I found a very useful guide here on using Hypex Filter Design, thanks to DannerD3H.

I have always been a music and audio fan and find acoustics and speakers particularly fascinating. I always wanted to design and build my own speakers but never got to it, mainly due to lack of space to use for woodworking (I live in a small flat). But still decided to go for it. I will work around the difficulties somehow. If there is a will, there is a way.

I have...

2-Way MEH build

After months of research on Multiple Entry Horns, I’ve decided to build my own. While there are some excellent designs available, I’ve decided to design my own due to size constraints and budget limitations. My goal is to build a complete system for under €2000, including drivers, amplifiers, DSP, materials etc.

I’ll be documenting the journey and sharing the lessons I learn along the way. Since I’m new to this, I’d greatly appreciate any feedback or suggestions for improvement.

For those...

Shipping compression drivers to Germany from USA - Export rules

Has anyone ever shipped compression drivers to Germany from the USA? When filling out the customs documents, its saying that speakers are a restricted item. I dont understand why, aside from perhaps the solder in them adhering to ROHS standards. Its actually the US customs being picky here, not the EU or Germany.

Anyone else been in this situation?

HF driver diagram failure ,defect or too much power.

Guys,
Last Friday gig one of my tops just go dull, so I noticed and when in front of the cabinet, I immediately knew what happened, I lost the HF driver.

The tops are :
Yammy DSR112, the plate amp have all the DSP and limiting , so why the driver fail?

Metal fatigue, too low XO point (too much LF power), or just too much power.

Factory DSP suppose to prevent any harm to the drivers!

12BH7 in 12AU7 cathode follower circuit

Hi

I built the RCA 12AU7 cathode follower preamp, and I’m finding it to be a bit bright/Sibilant sounding. It sounds bright with both Mullard, PSvane and Electroharmonics tubes in it. And it’s bright with every amp I put it in front of (DIY store Sony VFet, Hiraga Super 30, Type 45 and a couple of others…)

Been reading about subbing a 12BH7 for the 12AU7’s, and from what I’ve been reading, they could help with the top end.

I’m using a Hammond 369JX transformer and an EZ81 rectifier for...

KRILL an amplifier (still) worth looking at

I'm the new 'owner' of this amp and it has been in use for several months now. The pre-amp being my Kondo M7, vinyl source and single large Audio Nirvana 15" speaker.?

I am hoping that I can rekindle some interest in this design. The sounds is good and the design is an interesting one because it exploits what is normally a weakness - the charge storage in the base region of the power output devices - to...

I know I am late for the party, but I wonder if you or anyone did make this amplifier?
After looking at the KCP amplifier previously referred to, I wanted to make one. But I couldn't figure out how to make it complete...
Is the original KCP amp only an 0dB OPS, needing an IPS? With or without global feedback?

Here is what I have done so far:

Original schematic, I think:

Advice on which quality driver to pair with a 300B low Wattage amp

$

Hi,

i am looking for a high quality full range driver for a diy cabinet (appreciate if there is already a plans) to match with my 300b amplifier.
My 300b is a type which churns out around 11 Watts single ended Class A.
(monoblocks made by Diyhifisuply, the Lux mono max)

I am looking for quality.
Price is an issue as always, say around the 300-350€ per driver max if possible.

My listening room is 3.5x4 meter, so small room.
I listen mostly to jazz, electronic, indie, rock, classical...

I was looking for a schematic or service manual of P-300L (problem solved).

Data of the mains transformer alone would be nice also,
because it is burnt.

This is not for the first time a defective transformer is
encountered on Accuphase amps or japanese gear in
general.

The german importer will not provide schematics any
more "because of sole property of Accuphase". This
has been different in the past though.

Thank you for response.

Edit: I can help with diagrams for C240...

What is this amp stage doing !? Akai am 2450

Hello,

I got an Akai AM2450. I am trying to understand a bit of the schematics. (here joined)

Here the input of the amplifier stage. The differential pair takes its input from the pre-amp.

At the output of the differential pair, V+ is connected to the base of a PNP, and V- to the base of the NPN.

I am wondering what is this schematics doing ? In particular, they give voltage when no inputs, and I see 2.3V between the NPN base and emitter, which surprises me (0.7V would no be a maximum...

Click this for the scientific paper.

This is the Abstract:
Quark movement is almost by the speed of light. Due to this speed their inertial mass-effect increases profoundly. That inertial effect is an accelerating force. Within the nucleon the force is the strong force. As quarks movements are back and forth movements, called zigzag or oscillating movements, there is movement in opposite directions. So the oppositely acting forces annihilate each other. However the force acting on...

QUAD II mono amp/control unit/tuner (old model-1960)

Hi everyone,

I have an old-model (1960?) Quad II mono-amp with control unit and MW/SW/LW tuner, which was working fine about 20 years ago, including the green cat´s eye tuning monitor. It went into "safe" storage for a number of years, next to the garage, but a rainstorm 2 years ago caused a leak in the roof, with water dripping heavily onto the set. I only discovered that long after it had dried out.

When I tried it out recently, all the valve filaments did light up very nicely, but the...

8 Litre sub challenge!

Ok so this is technically car audio but I'm looking for any other options for bass in approximately 8l of space(0.3cuft).

Firstly yes I know it's tiny and not to expect a lot. Power is around 2 to 300 wrms which should be more than anything in a box that size can use.

Aiming for 40-80hz in car. Just a little fatness in the bottom end, not window rattling.

My constraints are using an existing enclosure with room for what appears to be a single 6.5 inch driver. I AM ABSOLUTELY open to...
