Any Beveridge fans out there?

Hello, I inherited a compete set of Beveridge Model 2sw-1 speakers. They used to be my brothers. I remember them sounding great. Only problem is on of the amps is blowing the fuse after about 10 minutes. I don't use them anymore because of that. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what may be the problem.

Please help me pick a 6.5 midbass for my current DLS set

Hi all. First post here.
So my current set up is just a three-way set of DLS ultimate iridiums powered by an inexpensive jvc four ch bridged to two ch. each channel is 100 watts rms.

Head unit is an alpine 9887.

I had these powered by an audison vrx 400 but one channel has an issue so I'd like to get that amp fixed. Anyway,

All three speakers are mounted in the doors. Both the tweet and mid are fine. Both the 6.5's have torn surrounds all around which I have siliconed and now the right ch woofer makes a terrible rattle like its torn again. So i just want to keep it all the same and get a new pair of 6.5's.

I was looking at the peerless sls 6.5. How will this speaker perform with this set/crossovers/amp?

If needed I could run a two amp set up as I have 2ga power and ground already run.
Thanks for the help.

Anyone here have experance with NI LabView?

I'm looking for someone who can write me a short procedure to control A HP RF signal generator and analyze the results on FFT analser (such as my R&S UPD or even an old LabVIEW ISA ADC/DAC card), and present the results on a waterfall graph.

Its something I'd like to program myself, but I must stay focused on the MDAC2 / VFET projects - so I'd be happy to pay someone to work on this for me.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...ercussions.pdf

The above magazine article describes the test and reasoning - I'd like to recreate at test set-up to measure the RF sensitivity of Amplifiers etc to external RF energy.

The process:-

1. Perform FFT of UUT noise floor across 20KHz or 100KHz span. (Using HP3561A, R&S UPD or NI ADC/DAC ISA card). Keep this noise floor result as the noise floor reference baseline (the UUT will be an amplifier or some analogue gain stage).

2. Sweep a RF signal generator from say 20KHz to 3GHz, or a or user set frequency span. The RF Signal Gen will be preferably an HP8662A or HP8664A set to 20mV RF carrier level with AM 100% modulation with an external random noise source B/W limited to 20KHz.

The HP8664A is better as its a 3GHz Sig Gen. so I can sweep the Mobile phone and WiFi Bands.

3. At frequency points along the RF sweep, perform a Analogue FFT and plot result on a colour graded waterfall showing any noise floor modulation as a result of the external RF carrier injected stimulus (any RF induced noise floor modulation of the Reference baseline).

Could be a nice project for anyone who works with National Instruments NI LabVIEW to earn some extra pocket money :)

Hello! Need help sir!

Anyone who has schematics for old school solid audio 2500wrms? If I remove the driver board(two IRS21844), this protection led turn off but power on LED does not turn on, neither the relay is not engaged but everything has voltage in it, rails voltages, and driver board supply. I should find the connection on LED turn on and relay driver. Pls help me to find the schematics. Thank you!

Here the screen shot...I can trade with other sch.

Dynavector 20B & Grace F8

I have a Dynavector 20B that looks great except the stylus is off center to the rightalmost to the edge of the hole. I have read this is common on this cartridge, is it worth sending to Sound Smith for repair?

I also have a Grace F8 with no stylus, looking for a replacement either aftermarket or otherwise.

Thanks,
sluf

What is responsible for "control" of loudspeakers?

Hi
There is a thing, that bothers me a lot. What is actually reponsible for controlling the speaker? First i though: multiple output devices, with a lot of current potential. Got my dad Onkyo A-9000R. Nope. Thin lousy sound. What the hell? Then class D: TPA3106. On my main speakers(Harpia Acoustics Amstaff) it sounds pretty good, control, attack, everything I need. On my auxilary speakers(ZA SR-71) thin bass, with no power and control. Even 2,5W SE on PCL86 has more of it. HA Amstaff has pretty linear 4 Ohms, when SR71 hasn't, so the output filter of TPA3106 goes crazy? If anyone could share their thoughs.

Designing around non-traditional driver sizes?

I've been thinking about designig a new system for a while, and mostly it's been just Hornresp sims and a little preliminary horn folding. It will soon be time to make some actual hardware - starting with a new horn kick bin for 80-300 Hz. It's going to be a new form factor more suitable for line arraying, and an easier build than the old design. Traditionally I've used 12" drivers. I've got the old Kappa Pro 12's in my old ones, and a stash of OEM Delta Pro 12s, both of which will "work". On a whim, I modeled the B&C 14NDL88 and I like what I see. The 12" version does not do as well, and neither does the 15. Unfortunately, this now leaves me with a dilemma. Should I commit to a design around a 14" - which may or may not disappear without warning, perhaps before the entire project is finished? Or stick with a 12" which I should be able to obtain pretty much indefinitely? Or are those drivers gaining enough ground in the industry where they'll be around in 2-3 years? I had the same misgivings about building those old lab horns - but that "custom" driver did seem to survive the test of time.

Kicker 2500.1 Protect

I am having an issue with a Kicker 2500.1.

When the remote is engaged, the protect light immediately comes on. There is no rail voltage generated or even a pulse to start the process.

The found a washer wedged between the rail voltage and a speaker trace, left a huge spark mark on the pcb. I removed it, and the issue remains the same.

I removed the driver PCB's and no change, all the 3205's and drivers outputs are good. The amp is drawing no current.

The voltage on pin 4 of the TL494 is 4.9 vdc (shut down), I also found that the voltage for pin 8 is 0.0v dc, that's the 12 driver for the open collectors for the driver transistors.

The driver PCB voltage are as follows:

1 13.41
2 0.0
3 0
4 12.85
5 13.74
6 .144

7 0.0
8 0.0
9 0.0
10 13.38

14 4.26
15 13.39

limited soundstage with headphones

I love the sound of a good pair of headphones. The transients can be very good and I hear things in my music that I do not hear when I listen to speakers.

BUT the soundstage or envelopment is lacking for me when listening to headphones. It doesn't really detract from my experience.

What puzzles me is how most are impressed and look for a wide soundstage/good envelopment from their stereo speaker system.

Does anyone else miss a wide soundstage when listening to headphones?

Do you prefer your speakers and only listen to headphones because of circumstances beyond your control? (for example, kids are in bed)

For the last few days a HUM us coming from the Transformers (Dual 650 VA Toroidal). I am very much worried. The dealer is almost 1550 Miles away from my place. Can I change the transformers? Will it affect the sound quality? Please also help me to find a 650 VA Transformers. Thanks.

Need Help Finding Rectifier Diodes!

I'm working on a Hifonics BE2500.1D and it has one bad rectifier diode. The part number is FMG-G33R. I can't find it anywhere to buy! I'd like to find the other rectifier diode (FMG-G33S) to have as a spare just in case as well. Is there any substitute part that can be put in place that is easier to find? If anyone has any info on where I can get them or has some spare laying around or in an amp I'd like to buy them! Thanks.

As I questioned, what about increase the decoupling/interstage cap by five-ten times the original project one?

Any benefit if roll-off freq was already below 10 Hz?

For example C= 1,5 uF with Rg= 470 Kohm
