Hi
I entered the murky waters of tubes for a wee while and ordered myself an Aikido Noval and Tetra Phono. My idea with the Aikido is to use it as a line stage amplifier together with the Tetra phono board, BUT, and here is the problem; I also want to use the Aikido for the F4 that I am planning to build.
This leaves me with a conundrum. I was initialy planning to use 6CG7 tubes in the gain section of the Aikido and then 6DJ8 (ECC88) tubes in the follower section because of the lower noise, or even 6CG7s through out. Will the gain be enough for the F4?
Also, what would be a good tube selection for the Tetra? I was thinking of using 6DJ8 (ECC88) tubes on the Tetra with an MC step-up for low output MC cartridges. What is the verdict?
Please note that I prefer NOT to use NOS and vintage tubes. The waters where the NOS tubes are is filled with sharks.
