Building modified Voxel, some questions

$

Hi,

I'm going to build a modified voxel sub, for more information look here. It is based on the Tangband W5-1138SMF, for specs see this link..

Now since I live in Sweden I'm having some trouble getting the exact same components used for port and amp. So I've been messing around in WinISD to modify the box with other tubes and try to get the somewhere the same specs. First of all the only predefined element is W5-1138SA, what is the difference?

I've also searched everywhere to get a decent amp. It should be somewhere around 50-70W and I haven't decided to go for a plate amp or a stand alone. I'm up for any suggestions here really, hit me! DIY Audio boards are OK as long as there is a possibility to change freq, volume and preferably auto start but not a requirement.

I think that's it for now, help is very appreciated!

Hi all, i'm trying to restore a Pioneer player/recorder PDR-05.
The service manual says to use a Disc Test std-903 or similar during oscilloscope and volmeter measures.
What is it? Do you know what it contains? Maybe i can create similar one with pink or white noise?

Thanks

2/ 10 Watts SE 300B

For both I will use Lundhal output transformers, the standard version (probably ll1623 for both).

The spec of speaker :
Type: 3 way, 3 driver loudspeaker system
Frequency Response: 40Hz to 20kHz
Power Handling: 40WC
rossover Frequency: 700, 7000Hz
Impedance: 8Ω
Sensitivity: 98dB
Bass: 1 x 250mm cone
Midrange: 1 x 125mm cone
Tweeter: 1 x 50mm horn
Enclosure: bass reflex
Grille: hand carved Kumiko fretwork

Another one from Germany

Hi everyone,

I'm a young DIY-Hifi enthusiast from Germany. My current setup consists of an active three-way speaker, filtered using EQ APO. Been meaning to join this forum for a while and finally got around to it.

The first thing i wanted to post here was actually a translation of some stuff I wrote about REW and room EQ, however I cannot find an appropriate section. Can anybody tell me where that might belong?

Cheers
Jonas

Tannoy VX12 Box designs

Hello everyone. I have recently aquired these speakers at a price I simply could not turn down (£150 for the pair!). Now, I knew beforehand that they were really designed to be used with some sort of low frequency reinforcement, and I am hoping to acheive this by building new enclosures for them.

I have previously build enclosures before, not least the awesome Sachiko back loaded horn for the Fostex206E. So, my question would be does anyone one have any suggestions and / or experience that they would like to share? I will be contacting Tannoy in an attempt to get the Thiel-Small parameters in due course. In the meantime, the mids and highs of this driver are simply awesome and I am very happy with them.

Many thanks, Steve (aquapiranha)

Noise: cheap power inverter for series heater string

Would it be safe to assume that noise would be an issue using the unrectified output of an inexpensive 12V => 120V power inverter to power a series heater string?

Scratchy volume pot only when turn power ON or OFF

$

So, this is my first post here so I apologize if I am posting in the wrong place!

I have this vintage SS integrated (amp+pre) stereo with around 35 years old and it stayed out of action for a couple years as I was using another vintage receiver.

A few days ago I brought it back to work and it's great as usual but it is with an annoying issue (that now I remember that it already had it when I put it on the shelf).

Right after I turn it ON if I immediately mess with the volume knob it makes a loud scratchy sound. If I keep messing the knob the scratchy sound keep doing for around 3 seconds but goes fading out until stop and then I have no noise anymore.

The same happens when I turn it OFF. It will make the same noise if I push the power button and immediately mess with the volume knob. I can repeat this process a thousand times and it will happen exactly like this every time. But only during 3 seconds after to power ON or OFF. Very weird.

I suspect that it has nothing to do with the volume potentiometer. Seems to me that it is something with a bad capacitor somewhere. Question is... which one?

Anyway, I made a video showing the issue here:
YouTube

Any clue appreciated!

I just repaired this amplifier, but I have a doubt ..

All the Fet's of the power supply, were short and also two resistors gate.

Also one phase of the audio output stage, had failed (Q2013, Q2015 and Q2014, Q2011) and a Q2016 driver

All this has been replaced.
The amplifier tested and has a correct operation.

But the waveform on the Q2103 and Q2015 gate pins is the one shown in the photograph, is this normal?

E80CC/KT88 SE UL question.

Hi

Working on a schematic for a E80CC/KT88 SE UL amp,and I thougt this might be my thread for newbie questions. I know there are quite a few of threads like this but it takes time to search for just the right answer, so I hope you’d bear with me.

I am using the KT88 in SE UL mode, it should give sufficient power and has rather nice distortion numbers.

When in UL mode with g2 at the 40 % tap, how do I find the current passing in it? Read somewhere that the relation between Ik and Ig2 would be fairly constant across different operating points, and this gave a fair approximation? JJ states 140/7 mA, which is 5%

Also, calculating output power with a 3,5k OPT gave 10,5W, using formula P=V2/R. Not considering OPT losses, but still seems a little low for UL?

EL-166/ERT-26 build options

Hi guys, found myself the happy owner of a set of the Markaudio Woofer no.6/tweeter no.3's also known als the CSS ERT EL-166 and ERT 26. Looking to do a good build with them.

The problems are:

-I can't do math nor design crossovers, I just don't have the time to figure all that stuff out, so I'm going to need a proven design. None of the designs I've found for these drivers mention xo's.

-Most of the stuff I see out there for these drivers is phrased in terms of big honkin' standmounts (often with two or more woofers). I'm not really into that sort of stuff, so smaller designs are welcome.

Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction.

Splitting SRPP over 2 tubes and raising heater

$

Hi

I'm building a KT88 SE amp and would like to use a 12AT7 SRPP as a driver for the KT88 and a 2nd SRPP to drive a spring reverb tank. The 12AT7 max heater to cathode voltage is quite limiting when B+ is over 330v. If I raise the heater a lot for the top tube it starts getting too high for the bottom tube.

Is there anything wrong with using the triodes of one 12AT7 as the top triodes for both SRPPs with another 12AT7 providing the bottom SRPP triodes? Would this mean I could raise my heater supply as normal and then block the DC to the lower 12AT7 as in the attached schematic?

Cheers
Ben
